1. Find the terminal

The terminal is one of the most important tools you will use, thus it is imperative that you get familiar with the terminal. The terminal provides access to a command line interface (CLI).

2. Customise your system

Search online for guides on how to maximise your experience on the Virtual Machine (VM). They include using the full-screen option or choose between Seamless and Unity mode.

Additionally, Icons, themes and looks can all be customised to your liking. Be sure to do so once you have become more familiar with Linux!

3. Back to the terminal: Introducing the CLI

Let's begin by learning some basic Linux commands to get you familiar with the command line. Before we start, you might want to grab a copy of a cheat sheet to speed up your learning!

4. Home Sweet Home

It is critical to learn how to navigate through the files and directories in the terminal.

Type pwd. This command will display your current working directory. By default, when you launch your terminal, it will be /home/kali. This directory contains all your personal files and is known as your home directory.

Next, type ls to list the contents of your current directory. You should see the various files and directories.
